India to play vital role in ‘New Silk Road’ to Counter China May 24, 2017 12:34

The United States has revived the two major infrastructure projects in south and southeast Asia in a move that could potentially act as a counter to China’s ambitious project Belt and Road initiative. India would play a vital role in the U.S. project. Donald Trump’s administration has resuscitated the ‘New Silk Road’ initiative, which was first announced by then U.S. Secretary Hilary Clinton back in July 2011, during a speech in Chennai. The Indo-Pacific Economic Corridor would link the south and southeast Asia. A brief description of the two projects was made available during the administration’s annual budget on Tuesday, which indicated that the ‘New Silk Road’ would be a public-private initiative in which India will be playing an very important role. The budgetary request of its south and central Asia will support the two initiatives. The New Silk Road (NSR) focused on Afghanistan and its neighbors, and the Indo-Pacific Economic Corridor linking South Asia with Southeast Asia. The project will be leveraged through side-by-side collaboration with regional countries, other bilateral donors, development banks and with the help of private sector. It said "the importance of...the NSR grows" as the transition in Afghanistan continues and the US "strives to help the Afghan people succeed and stand on their own." The NSR refers to suite of joint investment projects and regional trade blocs that have the potential to bring economic growth and stability to Central Asia. James McBride of the Council on Foreign Relations said: "Following the surge of 30,000 additional troops into Afghanistan in 2009, which President Barack Obama's administration had hoped would lay the groundwork for complete withdrawal a few years later, Washington began to lay out a strategy for supporting these initiatives through diplomatic means." During her visit to India, Clinton had said: "Turkmen gas fields could help meet both Pakistan's and India's growing energy needs and provide significant transit revenues for both Afghanistan and Pakistan. Tajik cotton could be turned into Indian linens. Furniture and fruit from Afghanistan could find its way to the markets of Astana or Mumbai and beyond." But the project was put on a hold during Barack Obama’s second term when John Kerry occupied the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the state department. The China bureau chief of The Washington Post, Simon Denyer wrote in a column that Clinton’s idea never got off the ground and the Obama administration was criticized by the experts for responding negatively to China-backed The New Development Bank. Through the Belt and Road initiative, China is aiming to link itself with European and African markets through Asian countries and Indian Ocean. India opposes the project as it illegally runs through Gilgit and Baltistan in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a $46 billion project that links China’s Xinkiang region to the Gwadar port in Pakistan. The project is solely funded by the Chinese government and the port could be used as a naval outpost for the Chinese military. Indian Army destroys Pakistan Forward Post AMandeep

General Motors to cut 70% jobs in Singapore May 24, 2017 12:07

Auto-mobile giants General Motors is going to slash its operations in Singapore by 70%, as part of its global initiative aimed at saving 100 USD a year. There are about 180 staff members at General Motors International at OUE Bayfront in Collyer Quay. According to inside reports about 70% of the staff will be laid off. They will leave in two batches. The first batch by end of this month and the second in December. As severance, the company is paying one month for each year of service, in addition to that an ex-gratia payment for another month. Employees of the company throughout the nation are affected, including director of sales and business development Cheong Chee Sing and president Stefan Jacoby. Mr Cheong said he has been thinking about taking a break "for some time", "so this is timely". "I'll take a break before planning my next phase in life," the GM veteran of 22 years said. "There's no hurry to find another job." Mr Jacoby, whose job is expected to be downsized, could not be reached for comment yesterday. In a statement he said: "with an enterprise approach and making decisions that are best for the global business". The Singapore restructuring comes just three years after GM re-opened its regional headquarters here. The GM relocated to Shanghai in 2004, after the Economic Development Board awarded the company an operational HQ status. After the 2008 global financial crisis, it even closed its distribution and logistics center which it had operated here since 1972. About 100 jobs were affected back then in Singapore. In 2014, Mr Jacoby said: "The main difference is that we will have a much better grip of our markets... and we will raise the level of localization." The latest slashing is company’s global efforts to establish the Gm as a more focused and disciplined company. Earlier this month, the company announced that it will stop selling Chevrolet cars in India, South Africa and East Africa. The company is planning to sell its businesses its dealership and plant to Isuzu. GM expects to have an annual savings of about USD 100 million and plans to take a charge of about USD 500 million in the second quarter of this year. The charge will be treated as special and excluded from the company's results adjusted for Ebit (earnings before interest and tax). In the last quarter of last year, GM said it planned to cut more than 3,000 jobs. The Ford Motor was set to cut about 10% jobs, approximately 20,000 jobs from its global operations as a plan to save USD 3 billion in costs this year, according to Asian Wall Street Journal. Healthy Lifestyle To Reduce Risk Of Breast Cancer May 24, 2017 07:32

A new study said that, the things which keep you healthy overall, will help the women to lower the risk of breast cancer. The study discovered that exercising on a regular basis, maintaining a healthy diet and weight and also limiting the consumption of alcohol could reduce the odds of breast cancer. The report by the American Institute for Cancer Research and also the World Cancer Research Fund, is based on the study of more than 100 studies on breast cancer. The researchers also found that, regular exercise is connected only to small reductions in the risk of breast cancer. Whereas, the risk of breast cancer is elevated among the women who drank regularly, even at a moderate one drink per a day level. On the other hand, the women who were overweight in their adulthood face a greater risk of breast cancer after their menopause. The end line is that women can take all the proper steps to cut their odds of developing breast cancer, as per Dr. Anne McTiernan, one of the authors of report. "I think of lifestyle choices as being like wearing a seatbelt. It's not a guarantee you'll avoid injury in a car accident, but it significantly reduces your risk," said McTiernan, of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, in Seattle. On an average in the United States, one in eight women are developing breast cancer, as per the American Cancer Society. Some of the risk factors for breast cancer cannot be changed as like older age and also having a strong history of the disease in family. But still lifestyle makes a big difference, said an oncologist with the Mount Sinai Health System,Dr. Paula Klein. "We know that more than 50 percent of cancers are preventable with lifestyle choices," Klein said, who was not involved in the report. So if a woman takes steps to curb her risk of breast cancer, she will also be lowering her odds of developing some other kind of cancers, including the major diseases like type 2 diabetes and also heart disease, Klein said. The research also found that, the women who were moderately active all the day are tended to have a lower risk of postmenopausal breast cancer, which is the most common kind. Women with the highest amounts of daily activities are 13 percent less likely to develop the postmenopausal breast cancer, compared to the women with lowest amounts of activity. The activities included formal exercise, such as a fast-paced walk for 30 minutes . But it also includes the housework, gardening and also other daily tasks which keep the women moving. As per McTiernan, fitting in the physical activity all the day is key. "That is, once you do your 30-minute walk, don't spend the rest of the day on the couch," she said. When it comes to breast cancer before the menopause, only high intensity exercise was connected to a lower risk. The women who are most active throughout the day had a 17 percent of reduced risk in the premenopausal breast cancer compared those who were least active. For the postmenopausal breast cancer, women who are the most active when it comes to vigorous exercise, dropped the risk of breast cancer by 10 percent when compared to the least active women, the study showed. Women who are overweight or obese faced the higher risk of breast cancer after their menopause. For every 5-point increase in the body mass index (BMI), the breast cancer risk rose by 12 percent, said McTiernan. As for the alcohol, the study found that even the moderate drinking was tied to the increased risk of breast cancer: Drinking the equal and a small glass of wine each day has boosted the odds of breast cancer by 5 percent to 9 percent. But the calculation might be different for a woman with risk factors, such as having a strong family history of breast cancer, Klein said. The report included 119 studies which looked at the relationship between the risk of breast cancer and diet, exercise and also body weight. The review dug up only the limited evidence which specific diet habits are related to the risk of breast cancer. But a few studies have linked that diets with higher dairy products, calcium and also non-starchy vegetables to lower the risk of breast cancer, noted the report. Foods which contain carotenoids, such as carrots, spinach and also kale have also been connected to the benefit. Mrudula Duddempudi.

UTI In Women May 23, 2017 12:59

As per the American Urological Association and National Institutes of Health, the risk of woman's to develop a UTI in women lifetime is between the 40 and 50%, especially those among the newly sexually active and those in their menopause. Women who are pregnant, obese, or have the certain chronic illnesses are also at a higher risk for more frequent infection. With each UTI, the chances of experiencing another will be on rise. The infections are usually characterized by the burning sensation while urinating, more frequent urination, and also an urgent feeling when they are in need to go. They may also find themselves waking up at the night for multiple trips to the bathroom or may notice their urine has a foul odor. Signs of progressing a UTI include: lower back pain blood in the urine abdominal pain Fever chills "Chills and back pain could mean the infection has spread to your kidneys," said Michael Ingber, M.D., a board-certified urogynecologist at The Center for Specialized Women's Health in Morristown, NJ. Not all the UTI’s or their causes are the same. But infections can happen in the three various parts of the urinary tract: the urethra, bladder, and also kidneys. "The most common UTI-causing bacteria is the E. coli found in our gut," said Dr. Ingber, adding to that the other more aggressive bacteria, like staph can cause UTI’s too. Some women are more prone to UTI’s than the others Your unique anatomy means that UTI’s may peak twice in your life, becoming more likely when you are first sexually active and then again around your menopause. Younger women who have been infected are more prone for developing the cystitis or bladder infections if E. coli gets pushed from the urethra into the bladder. In the middle-aged women, the hormones can provide a good welcoming environment for the UTI’s. "When estrogen levels decline, the vaginal pH increases, or otherwise becomes more alkaline. This is an environment where E. coli and other bacteria like to grow," said Dr. Ingber. Pregnant women and also those with the immune-compromising diseases or the conditions like diabetes or obesity should get the UTI check-ups more often. They may also need more aggressive UTI treatment to prevent the kidney infections from developing. Other conditions which have similar symptoms Sexually transmitted diseases as like chlamydia and also herpes can cause the urethritis, or inflammation of the urethra, which presents the similarly to a UTI. The interstitial or the non-infectious cystitis, which also have the similar symptoms. They affect nearly 6 million women annually, according to Dr. Ingber. Kidney stones, Kidney anatomic problems, or the inflamed pouch on urethra may also mimic a UTI. Only the doctor's office tests will help to distinguish between UTI’s and these of other problems in order to get the right care. If UTI symptoms may persist or worsen despite of the antibiotic treatments, get checked the right away to rule out more number of serious conditions. Foods that prevent breast cancer!
